Well, it defiantly is on its way out. Most of the bolts are rusted, and I'll need to replace them all. I don't want to scrap it or sell it, only because that car really has alot of sentimental value for me. After all, it was my first car and has been in my family for over 13 years. This is the car that I learned to drive in. This is the car that brought me to the first days of middle school, high school, and college. Instead, I want to give my civic a new heart, while learning to swap an engine.
Now here are the hypotheticals. If I want to swap it with a newer K20 engine with a manual transmission (current car is auto), would it fit? Also, would I be able to just bolt in an extra pedal inside the car, or do I have to do something more than that?

1st: I love everything about this post. From a fellow Honda guy, you're the man.
2nd: More info on the car? A K20 may not be the best route.

2000 Honda civic LX sedan, auto. Basically untouched. I really can do anything to the car, since this isn't my DD anymore.
Other than that, I don't know what other info you need.

Defiantly?

Swapping (or slipping) into one of these:
might be easier and a lot more fun!

Anything will fit with enough time and money. A B series swap would be much easier and cheaper, and I'm really not fond of the poly mounts you'd have to use for a K swap.

With that gen a B swap would be much easier, and with some cheap tuning, make as much power as a K20. You have the D16 or 17 right now (can't remember right off the top of my head), but it basically mounts up the same as the B18. If you could find a VTEC B18 from a GS-R or ITR, you'd be gravy. People do those every day and they work beautifully. And yeah you'll have to cut through the firewall for the clutch pedal.

Yeah, a K series wouldn't be the best choice, but it's possible to swap anything into anything... hence V8 CRXs, RWD SR20DET EKs, etc. The catch is that based on your post, it doesn't sound like you wrench on your car much and kind of just maintain it. That would lead me to believe that you do not have $100,000 laying around to spend on the car and also not going to doing a ton of fab work. There is also the matter of it still being a Civic, so the chassis it's self is very limiting without help.
Stick with a more straight forward swap (and cheaper) like a B series.

You know, I have a B18A1 lying around, complete with manual ECU, begging to be turned into a LS/VTEC swap......
As conversion from auto to manual, its possible. The frames come set up for manual, just nothing put in. From stripping a Miata completely, I found a lot of auto stuff in a manual as well. The harness had several loop-overs for auto parts that weren't there. Where are you located?
